Every six months or so, I go down the foxhole that is Endometriosis research. I don’t know why. I have little rationale other than some sense of obligation to feel “on top” of my health or maybe some form of self-torture.
The information is always the same. I don’t change what I’m doing about it. And then the guilt seeps in.
I remind myself of my doctor’s recommendation, a year and a half ago, that I should start trying for a family if I wanted one. I remind myself why I flatly said, “no”, and why that remains my answer. I go back and forth between feeling solid about my decision and picturing my future self crying in a doctor’s office because I thought I could fight biology.
That felt heavy.
But this time in my research, I got a good, long laugh. I stumbled upon a site I’d not seen before, outlining a diet that could reduce symptoms and ease the pain. Yes—this is doable! Or so I thought…
The diet suggested eliminating the following from my diet:
- wheat
- red meats
- refined and concentrated carbohydrates
- refined sugars and honey
- caffeine
- chocolate
- dairy produce
- fried foods
- saturated fats and oils
- soy products and soy protein products
- convenience foods
- tinned foods
- additives and preservatives
- alcohol
A life without an abundance of ketchup and Girl Scout cookies is not a life for me. And just like that I felt better about the whole damn thing.
